NaNoWriMo day one: successful!

>> Monday, November 1, 2010

I DID ITTT!!! I survived day one of NaNoWriMo! ...Barely!
Oh yes, it has been a hard day for me on the writing front. Took me FOREVER to get started, and then even once I did get started, I had a hard time keeping up. But I've set my minimum word count goal per day to be 2,000 words, and I got there. So I think today was a success! And of course here I am to blog about about it. WITH PICTURES!!! =O
Yes, I'm excited.

So, I started writing at approx. 7:00 p.m, because I always find that after dinner is the best writing time for me. The first thing I did was figure out how many words minimum I needed to write per day, which I mentioned above. Then, I set out to write down those 2,000 words! Not an easy feat.
Like I'm pretty sure I said in an earlier post, I've actually somewhat planned out this novel. So I know kind of where it's going. But yeah, that didn't really help me today. Well, it did help in some spots. But I still kept getting stuck super easily, even though I knew how my book was supposed to start! Oh and also, here a little treat for you, you get to hear the first sentence! :]
So here it is:
"Being a fugitive is no fun."
There you go. Are you hooked? Are you thrilled and interested? Well I sure hope so!! Haha, I think it's a pretty good first sentence. Yup yup. I'm a tad bit proud. And I thought of that, like, MONTHS ago. Heh heh.
But anyway! Even though I knew how everything was mostly supposed to look, I had trouble concentrating. It didn't help that almost all my family members that live here were in the living room (where I am) and talking away, and whenever ANYONE is talking, then my brain FORCES me to listen to that. So yeah, it was super annoying. And that's why, after about an hour of trying to write, I looked like this:

(yes I cut my bangs on Saturday. :] hehe)
Yeah, it wasn't that great. I also kept getting distracted by my cat, who is the cutest thing ever. Picture (really bad picture that doesn't do him justice, that is) below.

I even took a picture of the ninjas on my email. Yes i was a bit bored. So here's that.

But aren't they cute?!?!?!? I love gmail!! Oh, right. Anyway! I was stuck. Finally, at around 9:00 I think, most of the people left or stopped talking, and I could get down to business. So I wrote some. And then I stopped for a while. Wrote some. Out of ideas. Wrote some. Didn't like it. Wrote some more. Yeah, it was still a bit bumpy. Hence the next picture:

But then! I had a stroke of genius. I went back to my email, and looked for some old WriMo pep-talks from last year. I found the one I had gotten last Nov. 1st (since I already read the one I got today). I read that one. And it helped me. So then, FINALLY, I went, wrote, and got down my 2,000 words by around 11:00. YAY! And that pep talk is what helped make NaNoWriMo day one: SUCCESSFUL!
 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, yes, that's it. Thumbs up for me. :]
But really, for some reason this year (well, I'm not sure I can say that after only one day, but still) seems way harder than last year. Ugh. But hopefully my writing will be better! And I know I CAN DO IT! And so can you.
Bye everyone! I had a ton of fun making this post. :]

Freaking. Out.

>> Friday, October 29, 2010

Hello everybody! I think that CurrClick post got me back into the blogging mood! Or just the fact that I realize I'm going to actually have to start writing again, on Monday. And that's what today's title and post is about!

November 1st is on Monday. That also means NaNoWriMo starts on Monday. MONDAY. And today is FRIDAY. I AM KIND OF MOST DEFINITELY FREAKING OUT!!!! Yeah! And why am I freaking out so much? Mmm, maybe because I haven't seriously written anything since LAST November! I KNOW I KNOW I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON. Wow, I'm saying that a lot lately, aren't I? But really! I'm supposed to be the writer person! I even think of *myself* as 'the writer person'! And yet...I've been neglecting my writing. And I actually feel really bad about that. I mean, seriously. It's what I want to pursue as a career, I should be at least writing somewhat now, right? But I really haven't. I mean, I worked on writing for the group epic in Lit Class, but that's pretty much it. Besides a few other school things, I guess.

Okay, anyway. I'm going to be doing something a bit different for NaNoWriMo this year. I've had this novel idea in my head since summer, and I was planning to just write it normally starting when I started school, and take a break to do a side project for WriMo, but...I never ended up actually writing it! So I'm going to start on my novel, and try to write the 50,000 words, but I'm not going to try and actually FINISH the novel, because I want it to be longer than that. I think it'll work pretty well! Oh and I'm also actually planning out what I write before I write it, for the first time ever! It's sooo weird. But I really want this book to be the best thing I've ever written. And I am excited along with my nervousness. :]

But yeah! On a random side note, I went to Washington for the day, and visited my cousins while my dad was at a meeting for his work. My cousin Karen (who is almost exactly half a year older than me, on another random note) just got her permit on Wednesday, and she took me out on a drive around the town. *I'd just like to add that her mom WAS in the front seat, and she HAS been driving in their field for several years! So she does know how to drive and it was perfectly safe! Haha just had to put that in.*
But anyway, now I totally feel good about myself...like, if she can drive, I know I can too! So that's cool. I still definitely need to finish reading the driver's manual, though...ugh. :P

Okay then, I think that's all I have to say for now! Be looking for updates in November, though, because who knows, I might post excerpts from my novel or something! ;) Okay, peace ya'll, haha I'm outta here. :]

P.S. I just realized...if you're reading this and have NO idea what I'm talking about about NaNoWriMo, check out either one of these websites!: NaNoWriMo adult program or NaNoWriMo young writers program.

One more day, one more reason!

>> Monday, August 23, 2010

Heeeeyyyyyyy!! :D
Haha. So yeah, I went to the beach today. I froze to death. It was so windy!! But yeah, I had fun. And I'm still exhausted...gosh, I dunno when I *won't* be exhausted! Okay, well, time for today's reason!

• An extremely strong, brave, FEMALE protagonist.

(for those of you without literary knowledge, that means main character).

Yes. Katniss. I find Katniss an example for female main characters around the globe. =P

I mean, seriously! So many times, female characters are portrayed as weak or dumb or at least not overly resourceful. But Katniss is the opposite of all those things! You must admit, she is pretty dang awesome (and I definitely know a few guys who would agree with that fact. Team Katniss anyone?). ;]

But yeah, I do love Katniss. Of course I'm many times frustrated with her, but hey, I always get frustrated with the main character in books. Who doesn't? And yes, she can be rather...dense at times. But heck, that's another reason I was going to mention-she's HUMAN. Very much so. Yet another thing I love about SC's characters! They're all so believable.

Anyway. Yes yes. I kind of want to get plenty of sleep tonight, so I'll be rested up for tomorrow! What's tomorrow, you ask? ...well you'd better not be asking that!!!! Mockingjay. BRING IT ON.

Haha, okay, I'm done being a dork. Toodle-oo! May the odds be ever in your favor, especially when it comes to getting your copy of Mokingjay! :]

Mood: happy! And tired, yeah.

Quote of the day: 'I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun.'. -Katniss

Listening to: Fave playlist! Currently it's on Haven't Met You Yet by Michael Bublé. I love this song! :]. (the funny thing is, right after that song finished, The Kill by 30STM came on. That song AKWAYS seems to be playing while I'm typing this part!)

I really don't know.

>> Sunday, August 22, 2010

Hey there y'all. I am so proud of myself for posting right now. Why? Well for many different reasons. For one, I really don't know what my reason is going to be today. =P I am just bad at thinking up reasons why I love things! And two, I'm still in the middle of rereading Catching Fire, AND I'm going to the beach tomorrow so i'll barely have time to read it. I'll probably have to make myself car sick from reading in the car... Heh heh. Oh, and on a final note, I am EXHAUSTED! Not. Even. Kidding. But I feel waaayyy better than I did earlier, so it's okay. I'm also stressed about a few things, though, so it's annoying. Anyway! Here's reason number...oh, I don't even know. Just let me think of it.

(oh yeah! I remembered one I had thought of earlier :D!)

• The complexity of the plot.

Yes indeedy. There are so many elements of THG that might seem simple at first, but when you think about it, are really quite complicated. And SC rarely puts something into the story that isn't explained later or has something to do with the plot. That's another reason I'm excited for Mockingjay, to see all these loose ends tied up!

And there are so many theories people can think up. I'm not too fond of theories, but I think everybody has at least one. I'm trying to think of some examples of complex plot points...well there's the thing with Plutarch Heavensbee and his Mockingjay watch (Catching Fire pg. 82). I don't even think that's fully been explained yet! There are just so many little things woven in together tightly to make a GREAT story. I love it. :)

Mood: um. Not sure! Haha
Listening to: The Kill by 30 Seconds To Mars. LOVE THIS SONG!

So yeah, I'm a bad girl, I didn't post yesterday. But I went to the fair! And it was fun! And then I was freaking EXHAUSTED afterward. Even so tired that I didn't finish rereading The Hunger Games like I was supposed to! Yeah. So that's why I didn't post. But it's okay, because today you get an EXTRA GOOD reason to make up for it! :D
Are you ready?

Peeta

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES. He is definitely a whole reason. Wow this post is going to be fun. :D

So anyway, who WOULDN'T love Peeta? I wonder if we have any Team Gale people reading this...crazies. I'm serious, Peeta is amazing. If he wasn't in The Hunger Games...well I don't know what I'd do! It would be a totally different book. Because Peeta adds such a wonderful element to it, really. He is such a sweetheart and deeply cares for Katniss and, and...oh gosh. I'm such a girl. And I really don't know how to properly write this post, because I really can't place a finger on everything that is so amazing about Peeta. So how about a few quotes! :D

"Remember, we're madly in love, so it's all right to kiss me anytime you feel like it." -Peeta Mellark

"You here to finish me off, sweeheart?" –Peeta

"I want to show them that I'm more than just a piece in their Games," -Peeta.

"Trust me. Killing things is much easier than this," I said. "Although for all I know, I am killing you."
"Can you speed it up a little?" He asks.
"No. Shut up and eat your pears," I say. -Katniss+Peeta

"Peeta," I say lightly. "You said at the interview you'd had a crush on me forever. When did forever start?"
"Oh, let's see. I guess the first day of school. We were five. You had on a red plaid dress and your hair...it was in two braids instead of one. My father pointed you out when we were waiting to line up," Peeta says.
"Your father? Why?" I ask.
"He said, 'See that little girl? I wanted to marry her mother, but she ran off with a coal miner, '" Peeta says.
"What? You're making that up!" I exclaim.
"No, true story," Peeta says. "And I said, 'A coal miner? Why did she want a coal miner if she could've had you?' And he said, 'Because when he sings...even the birds stop to listen." -Peeta

(And OHMYGOSH page 130...) "'Well there is this one girl. I've had a crush on her since i can remember. But i'm pretty sure she didn't know i was alive till the reaping."
. . .skipping a lil . . . ..
"'I don't think it's going to work out. Winning . . won't help in my case'"
. . .Skipping again .. . .
"Peeta blushes beet red and stammers out. 'Because..because..she came here with me.'"
-Peeta

Okay, I think that's enough quotes...now for some artwork! (Yes, I am obsessed. Shut up.)

Look! It's Peeta! :D (I love burdge-bug's artwork)

Personal favorite. ^_^

Another by burdge-bug. :]

And these next two are just hilarious. :D

Okay! Wow, this is totally not even about Peeta anymore. Well, I'm just gonna wrap up so I can go read:

I LOVE PEETA.

This will be a quick post! Why? Cause I was in the middle of reading (well, re-reading) The Hunger Games when I realized I hadn't posted yet today! And I'm at an exciting part so I gotta hurry. But it's okay because that'll just help me with today's point! Which is, are you ready?:

Suspense

Yes, that's right. Suspense. You know what the word means. I love it! One of the hardest things for me in writing is creating suspense, especially to end chapters with. Because everybody loves suspense! I mean seriously, think of the endings of both the first two books. "I take his hand, holding on tightly, preparing for the cameras, and dreading for the moment when I will finally have to let go."
I mean, GOSH!! I know for me personally at least, when I read that I was dying inside. I had to know what wad going to happen! And then the second book, and "There is no District 12". ...

?!?!!!????!??!!?!!?!!??!!?!!?!!?????!!?!!!!?!?!?!!?!!??!!!?!!?!!?!!??!!!!!?!!?!?!!

Seriously!! I know that so many of us were, well, frustrated with SC for leaving us hanging like that! But, it's a good frustrated. And it's one of the best skills to learn as a writer.

Now, I could go on and on about how GREAT the suspence and ALL the dramatic elements of THG is, but heck, I wanna get back to reading it! So instead I want YOU to post some examples. Kay? Everyone got it? Comment stuff!

Okay well I thought I had something else to post, but I don't remember it! So okay! Bye. I'm gonna go read more! :D

Mood: Tired. Happy. I love THG.

Reason number 6 of my countdown!

>> Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Here I am again, everybody! See what wonders this countdown is doing for my blogging life? And it's totally helping me get even MORE excited for Mockingjay (and I didn't think that was possible!).

But anyway. Here we go, reason number 6!

• It's written in present-tense.

Yeah, okay, so maybe my inner author is showing today. But seriously! Writing in present tense is really hard (trust me, I've tried) and Suzanne Collins pulls it off perfectly. I mean, she makes it all seem so realistic, like it's really happening at the time, which is exactly what present tense is supposed to feel like, and she also fits in the memories in past tense without it feeling strange. So I totally admire her for that!

And also, since some of you might not think that's a legit reason, or at least not a good one (although I think it is), and I promised to add some little extra things, it's time for *drum roll* Megan's Theory's Time! :D
YAY! Haha...okay then.

So, I started re-reading The Hunger Games again today. And, when I was still on *page FIVE*, I noticed something. Something about Katniss' dad.
Here, straight from the book: 'My father knew and he taught me some before he was blown to bits in a mine explosion. There was nothing even to bury.'
Nothing to bury, huh? Guess what I was thinking...
MAYBE HER DAD COULD STILL BE ALIVE!!!

Okay, I do seriously doubt it myself. But wouldn't that be amazing? I mean, if there was no body to bury, where's the proof that he's dead? He could be hiding out in District 13! I know, it's crazy. Very crazy. But what are your thoughts? I CAN'T WAIT to find out what's going to happen!!!!! :D

Countdown Reason number 7!

>> Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Whoops, I almost forgot to post this before going to bed! Good thing I didn't. :)
Oh, and just a note before I start: these aren't nessicarily in any order. Just whatever I think of, I'll write! That's always worked for me, so yup!

Okay, here we go. Reason number seven of Why I Love The Hunger Games So Much:

• I can read them over and over and they never get old.

Seriously! I've already read them multiple times, I'm not even sure how many. And I'm planning to read them again starting tomorrow, in another preperation for Mockingjay! :D
There's just something about these books that never gets old. Every time I read them, I'm still surprised, still see new things. I have some books I've read that I love just as much as this series, but I've only read once or twice. They just seem weird when I read them again. But not The Hunger Games! I think it's awesome that I can re-read them multiple times, personally. And it makes owning them so much more useful! :D

Okay, there's today's reason. It's not the best, but hey, I'm tired. Okay, well, until tomorrow's post!

-Megan, crazed Hunger Games lover

Update + Countdown! Yes yes yes!

Why hello there! Yes, I'm a terrible person, I haven't blogged in forever. But, I'm here again, and I have something extra special to make up for it! =D
Yay! Aren't you excited? Haha...not. But anyway.

Guess what? There is exactly ONE WEEK until Mockingjay. Yes, one week. 7 days. And when you've been waiting for 2 *years* (like ME), those numbers are sweet relief. And they keep getting smaller. But yes, one week until the 24th, until the 3rd and final book of the Hunger Games trilogy is available to the public. And on a personal note, may I please just say

I AM SO EXCITED OH MY GOSH I'VE BEEN WAITING FOREVER AND I THOUGHT THIS DAY WOULD NEVER GET HERE BUT IT ALMOST IS AND I KEEP FORGETTING AND THEN REMEMBERING AND I HAVE THESE MOMENTS OF BLISS AND I THINK I'M GOING TO CRY WHEN I GET MY COPY AND...

...Oh. Sorry about that. Whoops. Anyway, as I was saying, there's only one more week! Therefore, like so many other people are doing, I'm going to have a countdown of sorts.

Once a day, every day until the 24th (Mockingjay day!!) I'm going to post one thing I like about The Hunger Games. Like, one of the reasons I like the books so much, you know? And if I can think of anything, I'll also post some sort of...surprise or something, I don't know. But yeah! I'm excited. Definitely. I doubt anyone else is, but whatever. It'll be yet another thing to help me get excited for Mockingjay! Not that I NEED anything. But what can I say except ARE YOU HUNGRY FOR THE HUNGER GAMES?!?!?!

Cause I am. =)

Well, yeah, so, I'm trying to decide if I should actually post the first thing right now. Because this post is probably getting kind of long. Um. I dunno. I guess I'll wait, think something up, and then post it in a while. So be looking for that later tonight! Yay. I'm excited!!! =) Okay, well, bye for now everyone!

Mood: supremely happy

Monk: Why not?
Natalie: Because I love America.

Well hi there. Yes, it is the 4th of July. Independence Day.

How is my 4th of July? Well. Okay, I guess. Its had its ups and downs. This morning was kind of confusing trying to figure out plans, what with two of my brothers being sick and the other one up working at a deaf camp. But anyway, I ended up just skipping church and heading over to my sister's house for the parade. And I NEVER skip church unless I'm sick or out of town, so it was WEIRD! But anyway. I'm really tired (one of the downs) and really don't feel like writing in any detail. So I'm just gonna make a list of random things/points.

-I know four people that have their birthday today. Four. On the fourth! Bahahahaha...okay yeah.
-I got my first burn of the summer. On purpose. Kind of. Now I'm thinking I was crazy.
- I got to see some friends at the park afterwards! Haven't seen them in a long time. It was nice. And I ate a falafel (is that even how you spell it?) for the first time!
-I was thinking...I have never cried in public. I mean, not since I was really little, because I did then, of course. But I mean, that I know of, none of my friends have ever seen me cry or anything. It's just the kind of person I am. And don't ask why I've been thinking about that!
-I'm bummed that the ice rink doesn't re-open until mid-August.
-I really don't think anyone cares about this!
-I'm stopping now.
-Bye.
-Oh, before you leave, I'd like to point out that I'm in love with Mitchell Davis, Wade Johnston, and possibly Ahren Baesler (I think that's how you spell it). And I would say Julia Nunes to, but...yeah NO. But anyway, look them up.
-I'm done now.
-For reals.
-Bye!

Well well well!

>> Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Heeey! Yup, it's me. I'm posting again, aren't I a good girl?

Well, let's see. I had training for Camp Harlow Saturday-Monday! And it was all day Saturday and Monday. Yeah, exhausting! I'm still pretty tired but not too much so. However, my little brother very thoughtfully *cough cough* invited three of his friends over. And one of them brought a puppy. And my mom very thoughtfully *cough COUGH* let them come. But oh well! No complaining from me, that's for sure! Hehe.
But yeah, the training was a lot of fun. I got to see friends I haven't seen since last year (or just not for a long time) and some of my best friends are working there for the first time this year! So I'm really glad about that.

What else am I doing? Well right now I'm listening to music. Currently playing is Blame It On The Rain by He Is We. I don't know if anybody cares, but whatever. It has...significant meaning. And memories! :)

Oh I'd also like to say that I was very thankful for the person in my cabin at Harlow who was playing We The Kings while we cleaned and got ready for stuff. I forgot how much I liked them! But now I remember. And it's all good.

Aaaahhhhh! While on the topic of We The Kings, I have recently been informed that they have a free show in Eugene on Monday! Wow, I want to go sooo bad. Doubt it's gonna happen, though. *sigh*

Oh wow, this song just came on...ahhahahaha. Oh wait! Darn it. I'm trying to stop rambling, riiiight. Yeah, I'm going to be trying to make my posts have more...oh what was the word? Point? Yeah I guess that's it. So for now I'm just rambling. But unless people like it, I'm going to try and actually post well. Okay, that's all for now I guess! Bye. :]

Oh, and HAPPY SUMMER!! <3

I need to re-find my muse! My inspiration! Or maybe I should just write WITHOUT it. But I hate doing thaaaat...

OKAY!!! Megan. Enough whining. Get yourself together! Let's see. What's up with me? Well, seeing as how I haven't posted since the end of March... A FREAKING LOT. Yup. But for now, I have to go do chores and then watch MONK! Woot woot! So ttfn. I'll try and keep posting!!!!!! :]

Mexico Montage (my sunburn turned into a tan)

>> Wednesday, March 31, 2010

(this is a little thing I wrote to update everyone about my trip. it was a lot of fun making it!)

My sunburn turned into a tan!!

After leaving Trent church,

the bus broke down three times

1: not too long

2: found a lodge

3: Yreka Ray's!

Back on the road

we're all friends now

drove through the night smoothly

besides the stinky smell

plus some smoke

but it's all cool.

Oh, and my sunburn turned into a tan!!

Arrived in Mexico on Saturday

a little behind schedule

but still not too late

Sunday morning the worksite was a surprise

there was a still a house

where there shouldn't have been.

We talked it over

and being the kindhearted people that we are,

we couldn't give it up.

Even offering to give up

on going to Knott's Berry Farm.

We just couldn't leave that family.

Helped them move out all their stuff

the old house was a sorry sight

it made me even more thankful

for what we did for them.

Plus, my sunburn turned into a tan!!

Building and building

for 4 days

we really did a lot of work,

more than we expected

and still, we finished the house.

Parting was a sad time,

lots of people cried

I didn't, but then again

I'm not much for crying in public

I felt like crying, though.

When we drove away

Michael was waving

with tears streaming down his cheeks

I wish them all the best

and I know that everyone will miss him

and all of them.

Driving got us back to our

regular happy selves

and soon we were at a church gym

excited to be taking real showers!

We also did devotions

revealed our prayer partners

everyone had nice things said about them.

There was a bit of a damper on things

what with the situation

with John

but still, everything was awesome.

And then the fun day!

Best fun day ever

at Knott's Berry Farm

we didn't need to give it up after all

since we're such hard and fast workers

we built the house in time.

Everyone loved the fun day

and we all wrote about it

in Esther's journal

I'm a wimp and went on the little rides

but my brave friends went on a lot more.

After that, more and more driving,

with lots of fun pranks

on the people who were sleeping in the back of the bus

until eventually we were back at Trent church

with family and friends waiting

to greet us.

they really missed us.

And even though we missed them,

I think everyone was kind of sad

to be home again

and it was a sad parting.

Everyone got to know each other

really really well

and I made a ton of new friends

who I still miss

and can't wait to hang out with again.

But it was a great trip,

and a life-changing experience.

Oh, and

did I mention that my burn turned into tan?

Where to start?

>> Saturday, March 27, 2010

Oh my goodness. I seriously do not know where to start. So many things have happened and I've changed so much, even in just the past week. It's so crazy.

I suppose you should know (SHOULD...) that I went to Mexico over spring break! I got home today. I didn't want the trip to end... I miss all those people so much. Even though I'm going to see most of them tomorrow! Haha.

Anyway, I'm really hungry but I just wanted to explain one thing:

The new playlist (called Mexico Playlist) consists of songs that were played repeated and/or have meaning from the trip. So, as much as I didn't want to put Tik Tok on there, I HAD TO! Okay that's all. I'm done. Bye!

Days like these

>> Thursday, February 25, 2010

It felt like summer today. =)

I love days that feel like summer. But nothing can beat summer itself!

Days that feel like summer make me so happy. They make me feel light and carefree, not a trouble in the world. Like I could FLY. Of course I always have to come crashing down to earth, but I don't mind.

I even wrote a poem about it! Crazy, I know. But anyway, here it is.

It feels like summer
My favorite season
When the grass is green
The sky is bright
And all I need is a daydream.

Yeah, not the best, I know. But it's satisfying to write stuff like that down, you know? That's actually why I'm even still posting on this blog, since nobody actually reads it anymore... Oh well.

I live for days like these.

Two is better than one.... depending on those two.

>> Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Yeah, right now I'm listening to Two Is Better Than One by Boys Like Girls (featuring Taylor Swift!), hence the title. Yup yup. It's pretty good!

I promised I would be posting later today, and so I am. Yay! I'm so responsible! Anyway. I got back from my sister's house a little while, she invited me over to watch Sabrina. The newer one, not the one with Audrey Hepburn. And not Sabrina the teenage witch, Sabrina the chauffeur's daughter. Know what movie I'm talking about? Anyway, I hadn't seen that version before, and it was good. And it had Harrison Ford in it! :D LOL, he's pretty cool.

So, I've been pretty busy lately. One thing... I'm going to Mexico! Yeah!! I'm going with some people from my youth group and from Trent Church of Christ; going during Spring Break; gonna build a house (AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... inside joke there). Did I forget anything? Well, I'm really excited. The whole trip only costs 250 dollars, and 100 or so of that is for a fun day. So Yeah I'm pretty happy about that. I had two fundraisers that I worked at already; one on Friday, and one on Saturday. I had a REALLY busy weekend, but more about that later. Anyway, yeah, on Friday I went with Mike (the man in charge of our group) and two other guys who are going on the trip, Blake and Kyle. Oh, and Blake is my cousin's evil twin. Yeah. Anyway, we went and helped clean out this lady's garage and back yard, and washed a car, and did stuff. I earned a lot of money from that. Then on Saturday I went to my church and helped make decorations and then went to the other fundraiser with some of my friends who are also going on the trip.... okay, I'll stop putting in all these details. Anyway, it was a car wash and bake sale, so I helped wash cars for two hours. It was pretty fun, actually. And then on Sunday (Valentine's Day, YUCK) there was a potluck after church, and then me and my parents went up to Washington where I got to hang with my awesome (and weird) cousins. OH, and I got to go see The Lightening Thief! Yeah I was SOOOO happy about that. And it was really good to. See it. Do it. Now.

Well, yeah, I've been busy!! That's basically it. More updates later. Toodle-oo! =)

Short story

Okay, I'm going to post later today, I promise. But right now is school time, so I can't. I just wanted to share this short story that I wrote several years ago. I wrote it while we were on vacation at the beach, and I was sitting on a boulder overlooking the ocean. I remember being really proud of this story, I even read it out loud to all my relatives who were there with us. Anyway, here it is, more later today. (And I haven't edited this, so there are some problems with it. But I was pretty young)

Living Life.

By Megan, Age 10

The nighttime surrounds me, and I cry for help. My eyes try to make out figures in the darkness, but all I see is black. My eyes scan the darkness another time, but they grow tired. I hear a sound, and jump back. Am I safe, or will my death be soon? I grope around, feeling for a body. I feel a burn, and then something pricks my hand. I gasp, thinking of what could have happened. Was it a mere rose thorn, or was I bitten by a poisonous snake, or scorpion? I am afraid to touch it in case I draw in more venom.

Then I take a step forwards, and trip. I choke on sand, but then I stand up. Oh! I see a ray of light. Thinking good thoughts, I stumble towards the light. Then I step into the ray, and it becomes morning.

The light shines all around me. A soothing voice comforts me. As my eyes grow accustomed to the brightness of the morning, I hear singing, like the beautiful voices of a thousand angels. I take a step towards the music, then back into my safety. Then I gasp, for my eyes are seeing the most wonderful sight known to man: paradise.

As I look down on the unknown paradise, I hear heavenly voices once again. I cannot resist the urge to climb down the bank, and explore. I feel the soft sand on my feet, and hear birds of paradise singing their song. The dune grass is blowing, and I hear the ocean roar. Then, as I turn yet another bend, I see it. Yes - I see the Ocean. The sound is so loud, it seems like thunder. The waves crash upon the shore, scattering the nearby gulls. The colors of the water vary, from blue, to white, to green, and gray. I am so happy that I dance in the pure white sand, singing songs of delight. I finally collapse from exhaustion. I search through the sand, finding sand crabs, and pieces of Jade, and Agate. Then I find a long piece of seaweed and string my many treasures on it, to wear as a necklace.

Then, as I look up, I realize I have been transported to a different place, a tropical island. It is midnight, and I am seated on a cushioned throne with natives all around me. It is late, and I fall asleep to the beating of the natives' drums. Then I wake up, hearing someone call my name. But it is not my real name, Elizabeth. It's a child's voice calling, "Mommy, Mommy!".

Yes, the tropical paradise was all a dream. In reality, I am a mother of 6, not a dream princess. But it is true that life can sometimes be a nightmare, and sometimes a paradise. But, even though the years may come, and the years may go, and I will forget many things, I will never forget my dream, and I will always remember myself as I was in the dream: living, laughing, and loving life.

Guess what... BOOKS!

>> Friday, January 8, 2010

Yeahh I got to go to the library yesterday! How wonderful. And I made this lovely amazingly organized list. Of books to read. I love lists. I like certain aspects of my life to be organized (unlike my bedroom, haha!).

Today I finished one of the books that I got from the library; Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.

What did I think? It was GOOD. Very good, actually. It won a bunch of awards, even was made into a platinum edition, and is even being used in some schools for english. And I think that it deserved it.

It was also made into a movie (same title) starring Kristen Stewart. I want to see it. Even though I don't really like Kristen Stewart, I think that she actually probably does a good job in this movie, since the part fits her. And I've read several reviews that said she did a good job. So maybe I'll see it someday...

I think I'll type up my book list, just for fun.

Here it is:

• before the title = on hold/hold request sent in
Bold = I have it right now.
All capital lettered title+bold = I've read it.

Megan's book list.

Eagle Strike by Anthony Horowitz
•Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
•Graceling by Kristen Cashore
SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson
•Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
•Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
•The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Oplympians #2) by Rick Riordan
The Wizard Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
Tunnels by Roderick Gordon/Brian Williams
The Last Thing I Remember by Andrew Klavan
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
(I got these next two; they weren't on my list, but they were by authors on my authors to check out list)
The Other Side of Darkness by Melody Carlson
Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks

And there you have it! That's my list. It's always growing and changing, of course. Gosh, I love lists. I'm not sure why... but anyway, that's partly why I really like goodreads.com, because I'm using it to remember what books I want to read, and then I write them on my list! Heheh. I'm so silly.

So, yeah, if you've read any of those or want to read any of those, let me know what they're like or something! The nice thing about a few of those books is that they're 'classics' - meaning that my mom will let me read them for school. Haha!

Well I'd better go. I'm starving, but it's not quite dinner time yet... oh, whatever. I'm HUNGRY!

Bye!

I refuse to title this post "happy new year"

>> Friday, January 1, 2010

But it's true, it is now 2010! Insane, huh? I sure think so. It's
gonna be weird writing '10' instead of '09'. Who agrees??

Right now I'm sitting in the office. Listening to Kevin explain to
Nathan about this new Xmen gamecube game they're playing. How
interesting! ...haha. Not exactly. But I guess it's a LITTLE cool.

Okay, I want to be really honest on this blog. I've read some blogs
that are like really really honest, and I love that. So, time for a
bit of venting (not that I have all THAT much to vent about right now.
And my itouch has low battery).

Today I found someone's blog that looked interesting, so I skimmed
through a few of the posts. And I found one that I just could not
ignore. It was about infatuation, and how cruel it is. I simply had to
agree with everything he wrote, and I related to it so well. So I
commented on it (hope nobody thinks I'm a creeper, haha). It just
really shed light on the subject for me. Because most people probably
don't know this, (i hope that... Certain people... Aren't reading
this) but I kind of have a problem with infatuation. Not that I ever
let on, though. At least, I try my best to keep my feelings hidden
inside. But that's not always good. But is it better to keep to
yourself? That way you might have pain hidden inside, but would it be
better than showing everyone all your emotions all the time? I know
certain people do that. I don't, definitely not. It's just who I am.

So, like my novel says, I'm just trying to be my real self. Trying to
be honest. Maybe I won't hold back so much this year. But there'll
always be part of me hidden. You can count on that.

; )

Love always, Megan.

green, the band Skillet, music in general, and so much more.
